About "Lijsje Lorresnor"

About Lijsje Lorresnor

"Lorresnor Creaties"

adopts her name from the book "Lijsje Lorresnor" that came out in 1932 and was written by J.M. Selleger-Elout. The cover and the illustrations were made by Claudine Doorman.
It is based on the life of the little girl Jansje van Wonderen, who really lived and worked 30 years as a servant-girl.

In the book Lijsje Lorresnor is a small, blonde and shy ten years old girl. She lives with her parents and two little sisters in a small working-class house, that is situated in the neighbourhood of a rubbish-heap. Her mother conducts a very tiny shop in that same house, while her father tries to make a living as an agricultural labourer. Their most important possession is a cow named Bonte, Lijsje loves her very much. There is less money for buying clothes and other things, that is why the little sisters frequently root around (snorren) at the rubbish-heap to search for useable things. When children at school find out that Lijsje obtained her hat with the red ribbon that way, they give her the nickname Lijsje Lorresnor.

Madeleine Selleger-Elout, call name Nancy, was born in Utrecht (Netherlands) on the 15th of March 1875.
She died on the 5th of May 1957 in Bergen (NH) in the Netherlands.
Beside the many childerns books she wrote, she also published other work.

The use of second-hand things and materials wasn't unusual in the time Lijsje Lorresnor lived, although people didn't like to show off, because most of the time the lack of money was the reason.
These days we can knowingly make the choice between re-use or new, based on ones own vision on the society.
